Dollar Up, Gold Down in Europe

LONDON (AP) - The U.S. dollar was higher against most other major currencies in European trading Friday morning. Gold prices fell.

The euro was quoted at $1.2717, down from $1.2728 late Thursday.

Other dollar rates:

_116.33 Japanese yen, down from 116.40

_1.2436 Swiss francs, up from 1.2429

_1.1105 Canadian dollars, up from 1.1100

The British pound was quoted at $1.8712, down from $1.8748.

Gold traded in London at $611.50 bid per troy ounce at midmorning, down from $636.90 late Thursday.

In Zurich, gold was quoted at $611.70, down from $636.90.

Gold fell $19 in Hong Kong to $614.90.

Silver opened in London at $12.54 per troy ounce, down from $13.16.
