Settlers: Israel Agrees to Construction

Tuesday, April 15, 2008 5:00:57 AM

JERUSALEM (AP) - Israel has agreed to let Jewish settlers build new houses in existing West Bank settlements if they remove unauthorized settlement outposts.

Settler spokesman Yishay Hollender says three mobile homes at one outpost were moved Monday to an existing settlement.

Defense Ministry officials confirmed Tuesday that settlers will receive permits to build permanent housing. It was not clear how many houses will be built as part of the agreement.

The deal is meant to avoid violent evacuations of the unauthorized outposts, which are meant to expand Jewish presence in the West Bank.
