CARSON, Calif. (AP) - Alecko Eskandarian and Sasha Victorine scored first-half goals, and Chivas USA beat the Kansas City Wizards 2-1 on Saturday night.
Chivas (10-10-6) remained in second place in the Western Conference standings, two points ahead of both Colorado and Real Salt Lake.
The win was Chivas' second consecutive victory and fourth in the last five matches. Kansas City, meanwhile, dropped to 1-7-5 on the road and has not won a road match since April.
Victorine, traded by the Wizards (8-10-8) to Chivas on Sept. 15, made his first start for his new club. In the 26th minute, he set up Eskandarian for the game's first goal. Victorine held the ball along the end line and centered a pass to the front of the goal. Eskandarian slammed the ball into the back of the net for his fourth goal of the season and second in two games.
In first-half stoppage time, Victorine ripped a shot past Kansas City goalkeeper Kevin Hartman from 20 yards out for his first goal with his new team and second of the season.
Josh Wolff scored the Wizards' goal on a bicycle kick in the 70th minute. |
