PORTSMOUTH, England (AP) - Portsmouth defeated Tottenham 2-0 Sunday, with Jermain Defoe and Peter Crouch scoring against their former club. In another Premier League game, Manchester City was upset 2-1 at Wigan.

Defoe scored on a penalty kick in the 34th minute for his 13th goal in 18 games since being sold by Tottenham. The victory was sealed in the 66th by Crouch, who was let go by Spurs in 2000 without making a competitive appearance.

The Spurs are in last place with just two points from their first six games — one more than the previous worst start to a season in 1955.

Tottenham was angered that referee Mike Dean refused to award a penalty kick when Lassana Diarra blocked Aaron Lennon's cross with his hand in the 54th.

"It's true we're in a complicated situation," manager Juande Ramos said through a translator. "Right now when things are going badly nobody seems to help us."

Man City, which trounced Portsmouth 6-0 last weekend, was fuming at a contentious penalty-kick decision in the 34th minute that let Amr Zaki score the winner for Wigan. Antonio Valencia put Wigan ahead in the 16th, but Vincent Kompany evened the score from close range five minutes later.

ROME (AP) — Argentine forward Mauro Zarate scored twice and set up another goal to help Lazio beat Torino 3-1 Sunday and take the Serie A lead from Inter Milan, which was beat 1-0 by AC Milan.

Playing in his first Milan derby since transferring from FC Barcelona, Ronaldinho scored with a header off a perfect setup from Kaka in the 36th minute at the San Siro.

Jose Mourinho's Inter was reduced to 10 men in the 77th when defender Nicolas Burdisso picked up his second yellow card for a sliding tackle on Kaka.

Zarate drew three defenders toward him and passed to Goran Pandev for the opening goal in the 30th minute. He then scored in the 63rd with a long, curling shot before adding a penalty in the 84th.

Nicola Amoruso pulled one back with a penalty kick in added time for Torino, which ended with nine men and forward Nicola Ventola in goal.

With its fourth win in five rounds, Lazio took a two-point lead on Inter ahead of the Milan derby later Sunday.

Lazio leads with 12 points. Napoli, which beat Bologna 1-0 with an 87th-minute goal by another Argentine — German Denis — is next with 11 points. Inter, Udinese and Catania are tied with 10 each. Milan and Juventus are in a four-way tie with nine points apiece.

MADRID, Spain (AP) — Valencia beat Deportivo La Coruna 4-2 to move ahead of Villarreal and into first place in the Spanish league on goal difference.

David Villa scored two goals and Juanma Mata netted one before Joaquin Sanchez's 69th-minute goal gave Valencia 13 points alongside Villarreal. Real Madrid has 12. Almeria beat Recreativo Huelva 1-0 on Sunday to join FC Barcelona at 10 points.

FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) — Wolfsburg lost its first game of the season with a man sent off in its 2-1 defeat at Karlsruhe, while winless Eintracht Frankfurt rallied to salvage a 1-1 draw with Arminia Bielefeld.

Wolfsburg fell behind after 51 minutes when Massimilian Porcello drove a free kick through Wolfsburg's wall. Grafite was sent off in the 71st for collecting his second yellow card for a charge into Karlsruhe goalkeeper Markus Miller.

Alexander Iashvili broke through on the left wing and sent a perfect cross for Sebastian Freis to knock into the net in the 75th. Substitute Rocardo Costa pulled one back for Wolfsburg with his first touch of the ball, but Karlsruhe held on for its second win of the season and moved out of the relegation zone.

In Frankfurt, the home team trailed after seven minutes when Artur Wichniarek scored with a spectacular volley from a narrow angle for his sixth goal of the season.

Eintracht escaped with a draw when Benjamin Koehler scored with a header at the far post in the 87th.

GLASGOW, Scotland (AP) — Rangers striker Kenny Miller scored twice against his former club in a 3-0 victory at Hibernian to build a three-point lead over Celtic in the Scottish Premier League.

Miller met Kirk Broadfoot's cross with a diving header in the 31st and curled home a 20-yard shot in the 40th. French defender Madjid Bougherra completed the victory in the 73rd with his first goal in Scottish soccer.

Defending champion Celtic edged Aberdeen 3-2 on Saturday thanks to Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink's 90th-minute winner.
