Tuesday, September 30, 2008 9:57:21 AM

BERLIN (AP) - The women's World Cup in 2011 in Germany will open in Berlin, with the championship game in Frankfurt.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel was on hand Tuesday for the German soccer federation's announcement of the nine venues for the 32 games.

The 16 teams will play in Augsburg, Berlin, Bochum, Dresden, Frankfurt, Leverkusen, Moenchengladbach, Sinsheim and Wolfsburg. Magdeburg and Bielefeld did not make the cut.

The 2011 tournament will start June 26 in Berlin and end July 17 in Frankfurt.

Berlin and Frankfurt were sites for the men's World Cup in 2006.
