Blatter says Polish soccer issues resolved

Monday, October 06, 2008 8:21:05 AM

BRUSSELS, Belgium (AP) - FIFA president Sepp Blatter says Poland has reached a deal to avoid suspension from World Cup qualifiers and loss of its co-hosting rights to the 2012 European Championship.

Blatter has told The Associated Press that FIFA received notification from the Polish government and soccer federation that they had resolved the impasse.

He says the deal is "sufficient" for FIFA, and that UEFA president Michel Platini is also satisfied.

FIFA had given Poland until noon Monday to reinstate the Polish Football Federation's governing board or face suspension from two upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

UEFA had warned it could strip Poland of hosting the 2012 tournament. Poland is to co-host with Ukraine.
