LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Reigning Horse of the Year Curlin will stand at stud next year at Lane's End, a Kentucky horse farm owned by a former U.S. ambassador to Britain.
Will Farish announced Friday that the richest racehorse in North America will have a stud fee of $75,000 in his first year as a stallion. That is $10,000 more than the fee being charged for Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes winner Big Brown.
Curlin's majority owner, Jess Jackson, said last week he was retiring the horse after perhaps one last race. An ownership dispute is being hashed out in court over Jackson's $4 million bid for the 20 percent interest in the horse he doesn't already own.
In 16 career starts, Curlin has 11 wins with two second-place finishes and two thirds. |
