CHICAGO (AP) - President-elect Barack Obama has selected retired Marine General James Jones to be his national security adviser.
Obama told reporters at a Chicago news conference this morning that Jones would prove a skilled national security adviser. He praised Jones' experience, having served the country "in uniform and as a diplomat."
Noting that generations of the Jones' family have served the country, Obama said Jones "has commanded a platoon in battle, served as supreme allied commander in a time of war and worked on behalf of peace in the Middle East."
Jones says he's deeply humbled to have been asked to serve during what he called challenging times. He said national security in the 21st century has a broader scope and he sees the role as helping to make the world a better place. |
